The 73 page scenarios from the Office of Inspector General of USPS outlines 15 options for ‘raising’ revenue and reducing costs. Not one line of it even hints that mail decline is reversible. If your business uses, produces or benefits from MAIL, understand that USPS cannot beg Congress for $100 Billion and reduced service change unless it continues (yes you read that right) to undermine mail volume. In fiscal 2024, USPS lost $9+ billion while giving almost a half billion dollars in postage credits to just 1,300 companies. Mail is half of what it was in 2006 but employees are still 96% of what they were then. In late March, the Postmaster General told Congress that they may face shutdown without more subsidies.
